Image: Toyota Invests in EV Charging Network IONNA to Increase Charging Access for Customers

This summer, Toyota announced its investment in the EV charging network IONNA to help build a high-powered charging infrastructure for battery electric vehicles across North America. Toyota joins six other automakers in backing IONNA, with the goal of making charging stations more accessible for EV owners.

IONNA plans to install at least 30,000 charging ports across North America by 2030. These stations will support both NACS and CCS connectors to ensure compatibility with all BEVs. The first set of DC fast-charging stations will be installed this year, with more to follow nationwide.

This move highlights Toyota's commitment to BEVs. The automaker currently offers two BEVs: the Toyota bZ4X and the Lexus RZ. Toyota also plans to introduce two three-row BEV SUVs soon and aims to offer 30 BEV models across its Toyota and Lexus brands by 2030.

Toyota joins other major automakers—BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis—in supporting IONNA. With strong backing and ongoing efforts to improve EV charging infrastructure, electric vehicles are poised to gain even more popularity.
