The 2022 Toyota Highlander
The 2022 Toyota Highlander is a full-size crossover from Toyota scheduled to arrive in showrooms by the end of 2022. The new Highlander incorporates a new signature design element: the raised roofline found on nearly every model in their lineup. This article will go over what is known about the 2022 Toyota Highlander and what it means for Toyota.
1. Engine and Performance
The new Highlander is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 297 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. This engine is shared with the Toyota Sequoia and Tundra. The V6 will match an eight-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel-drive system with a low-range four-wheel drive. It also has an off-road driving mode with a locking rear differential, hill descent control, and a crawl assist function.
2. Design and trim
The new look of the 2022 Toyota Highlander can be attributed to influences from Lexus models such as the IS and GS. The Highlander will feature thin, horizontal headlights and large wheels, with a coupe-like roofline similar to the Lexus NX. A large rear hatch and wraparound taillights give the vehicle a sporty look.

3. Exterior and Interior
The Highlander will feature a taller and wider stance than it currently does, but the size of the cabin will remain roughly comparable to the current model. The Highlander will come standard with all-wheel drive, and there is no indication that the vehicle will be available with a hybrid or plug-in hybrid option. It has a capacity of 8-9 passengers, with the rear seats capable of folding down to increase the cargo capacity.
4. Safety and Reliability
The new Highlander comes with a standard rear backup camera, but it does not have blind-spot monitoring or lane departure warning systems. Its crash test ratings are similar to the current edition, with four out of five stars for overall protection and front-impact safety. Other safety equipment includes seven airbags, traction control, brake assist, and stability control. The Highlander is also equipped with a first-aid kit, fire extinguisher, and an emergency SOS button.
5. Technology
The new Highlander will come with a bevy of new technologies--including blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams. The Highlander will also come standard with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems that display all of the cabin controls on the screen. It also has Bluetooth, USB ports, and a digital adapter.
