Toyota's GR Cup Set to Debut in 2023

Toyota Announces New GR Cup for 2023

We are excited to share this important information about a new, all-GR86 racing series with you. If you're a fan of Toyota Racing Development, this news will surely excite you, too.

Recently, Toyota Gazoo Racing North America formed the GR Cup. This single-make racing series will feature drivers competing in Toyota's GR86 sports car. The inaugural run will include 14 stops at racetracks in the United States during 2023. Each race will be sanctioned by SRO America, a leading sanctioning body of GT-style races, for three decades. Expect the GR Cup's affordable-entry events to showcase the GR86's track-inspired engineering.

Due to the participation of several excellent partners, Toyota Gazoo Racing North America proudly offers a total purse of $1 million for the opening season. In addition to the schedule's thrill-packed racing, every event will give fans and participants a stellar environment of rich comradery among TRD enthusiasts. Expect partner-sponsored displays and exclusive hospitality areas at these first-class events. Each stop will surely excite devotees of motorsports and car culture.

In single-make racing, drivers compete in identical vehicles. For the GR Cup, every driver will use Toyota's intense GR86. Each race-ready vehicle will be produced at TRD's recently built facility in Mooresville, North Carolina. The crew will transform each stock GR86 by adding a roll cage, carbon-fiber rear wing, 22-gallon fuel cell, Alcon brakes, Bosch engine management, and several other crucial components. Later this summer, expect an announcement about the vehicle's price and the tracks' locations.

Toyota wants to go beyond building fans for its vehicles and its GR brand with this racing series. The company's engineers will use data from these races to create better street-ready vehicles. Likely, those will also produce future series under the Toyota Gazoo Racing North America banner.

Founding partners of the GR Cup include Continental, Crescent Tools, Gearwrench, JBL, Mobil 1, OMP, Racing Spirit, and Stratasys.
