What's New for the 2018 Toyota RAV4?

The Principal upgrade in the 2018 Toyota RAV4 cadre of trims is a brand new trim level designed for the great outdoors. The Adventure features a new exterior with wide-flared fenders and black wheels accompanied with a black graphic design on the hood. The Toyota RAV4 Adventure features a raised suspension to allow a greater range in off-road driving. Added as stock features in the Adventure are the Hill-Start Assist Control, a Tow Prep Package including Trailer Sway Control, and new Toyota Safety Sense technology. Options include Toyota's Dynamic Torque Control AWD that allows the RAV4 Adventure to tow up to 3,500 lbs. Another option for the Toyota Adventure is the Cold Weather Package that includes heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and windshield wiper de-ice capability. The interior has unique standard properties that include all-weather mats, door sill protection, and a cargo mat to protect against the mud and debris so often tracked in by people or attached to objects during off-road activities.

The RAV4 Lineup

Toyota offers the RAV4 in six trims for the first time in 2018: LE, XLE, SE, Limited, Platinum, and Adventure. The base model LE, the XLE, the SE, and the Limited come with a Hybrid alternative. These crossover models sport an ion-battery driven electric motor that augments the powerful gasoline engine to provide extra power, fuel economy, and longer distance possibilities before a necessary refill of fuel. The largest upgrades between trims come between the base LE trim and the first leg up with the XLE. The LE exterior comes standard with a rear spoiler, 17-inch steel wheels, roof rails, privacy glass, and powered outside mirrors that include a blind spot inset. The exterior of the XLE trim adds fog lamps, 17-inch 5-spoke aluminum alloy wheels, a height-adjustable rear tailgate for added comfort when loading or unloading, a power moonroof that either tilts or slides and heated outside mirrors with turn signals included.

The interior of the base LE trim includes standard items such as a premium fabric interior with eight cupholders. Added this year are the Toyota Entune Audio sound system with a 6.1-inch touchscreen and the new Toyota Safety Safety Sense technology. The vehicle still has from previous years the ability to change between the Eco and Sport drive modes, the remote keyless entry, a 4.2-inch multi-information display unit, and power windows and locks. The interior of the XLE adds the Toyota Entune Audio Plus system with Connected Navigation that coordinates with the new Scout GPS Link Navigation feature. Upgraded comfort amenities include a leather-wrapped steering wheel and Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control.

Powerful, Responsive Performance

The base LE trim and the XLE trim carry the 2.5-Liter 4-Cylinder 16-valve engine as standard. The engine produces 176-horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 174 lb.-ft. torque at 4,100 rpm. The higher-grade trims carry the same engine boosted to provide a net 195-horsepower.

2018 Toyota RAV4 Safety

All Toyota RAV4 trims were rated "good" in all categories by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. Airbags include airbags for both front seats, front head guarding airbags, rear head impact airbags, and airbags that guard against side impact. Toyota developed and installed its new Sensing technology that detects danger from front and rear. Childproof seat belt locks and the traditional 3-point adult seatbelt completes the protection package. Standard ABS brakes complement a Traction control system. All trims include a Lane Departure Warning device as well as Lane Keeping Assist programs.
