Toyota GR Supra Now Available with Manual Transmission

The Toyota GR Supra made plenty of waves when it returned back in 2019, but it still lacked a critical feature. While most casual drivers seem fine with an automatic transmission, sports car fans still love the feeling of a manual transmission, which the 2019 GR Supra lacked. Now, Toyota seems to have rectified this issue with their 2023 GR Supra.

Like its other Gazoo Racing-tuned sports cars, the GR 86 and the GR Corolla, the GR Supra is available with an automatic transmission. The stick even comes at no extra cost on the Supra. It does cause a factory-estimated 0.3-second dip in the model's zero-to-60 time, but that is likely a small price to pay for any racing enthusiast who loves the feeling of shifting their vehicle into high gear.

The GR Supra's manual transmission has been designed with the Supra in mind and will suit the vehicle's 3.0-litre 382 horsepower engine. At the same time, the GR Supra's braking control system and suspension have also been upgraded for superior performance. For those who aren't used to driving with a stick shift, the GR Supra also comes with auto rev-matching on downshifts, although this feature can be disabled for those who prefer a more authentic experience.

The GR Supra's new stick shift is designed to keep the art of driving with a manual transmission alive. Although it is still possible to drive the GR Supra with minimal shifting, there is no doubt that it adds something special to the experience of driving a racing sports car that can't be duplicated with an automatic transmission.
