Ryan Millen and his 2016 Toyota RAV4 SE blew through the finish line to take home a second-place win at the recent Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. Faced with challenging and changing weather conditions and unforgiving course obstacles, the dynamic Toyota team was able to pull ahead of several others to earn the well-deserved distinction.
Faced with a very slippery, cold clay course, the duo, along with various other racers took quite the beating throughout the competition. And unlike others who ventured off the track, Millen and his team focused on the task at hand and forged forward on the designated course.
“It was really tricky. There was thick dust, and the surface didn’t allow us to get any heat into the tires. It was hard to get them to bite,” said Millen. “Typically we do well in handling, as the RAV4 makes a lot of grip, but this clay base really made it tough.”
The hard work paid off though as the race progressed. By the end of the first stage, the team sat in third place, and by the end of the second day, they picked up enough momentum to finish in second place. It wasn’t easy as they fought long and hard to trim nearly a two-minute gap behind first place down to just 30 seconds at the end of the race.
Before this second-place victory, Millen and his RAV4 won both the 2WD Class at the Olympus Rally in Washington and the Oregon Trail competition, which were both held earlier this year. Next stop? The New England Forest Rally in Newry, Maine. That’s where the team will have yet another chance to show off their racing skills in the last of three races for the championship title.
