Houston’s Discovery Green is now hosting Bruce Munro’s Field of Light exhibit from now until Feb. 21, 2016. The British artist, who has become famous for his exuberant light installations, has similar art on display in several cities throughout the country. Munro’s Field of Light installation was the first body of work chosen to go on display at Discovery Green since the establishment of the park’s brand-new fine art committee. Located along the Brown Promenade, Field of Light has already become a popular attraction with locals and visitors within the area.

Field of Light can be described as an outdoor gallery made up of 4,500 glass spheres attached to illuminated stems. Munro came up with the idea for the installation in 1992 after taking a trip to Australia’s red desert, where he sketched a picture of illuminated stems throughout the landscape that would bloom at night. He revisited the idea in 2004 when he had the means to create such an extensive piece of art and has since installed similar light installations in various places throughout the world.

During Field of Light’s run at Discovery Green, free performances created specifically for the installation will be held on select evenings at 7 p.m. for parkgoers to experience. Visitors are also encouraged to take pictures of the light installation and share their photos with friends and family.
