Since the release of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, carmakers have been working hard to integrate each system into their vehicles, but one brand that has decided to not go in that direction is Toyota. Instead, the company recently announced it will be offering Telenav’s Scout GPS Link on the 2016 Tacoma and other models in their lineup, which offers smartphone integration for both iPhone and Android.
Toyota's decision to pass on Android Auto and Apple CarPlay may be a shock to many, but the company is confident Telenav's Scout GPS Link will be a hit with its customers. The new system will be offered on a variety of 2016 Toyota models equipped with Entune Audio Plus; however, the 2016 Toyota Tacoma is the only model currently confirmed to feature Scout GPS Link. As the same with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, users will have to download the Scout Link GPS app (free on Google Play and Apple App Store) on their smartphone to utilize the in-car system. Information will be sent from the phone to the car's infotainment system, giving users quick access to their favorite smartphone apps.
