Waste management is a serious concern in the world today, and over the past few years, more and more companies have been searching for new ways to reduce their carbon footprint and make the most out of their wasted materials. Toyota is one of a few automakers that has taken initiatives in waste reduction to better manage their impact on the environment. By having their facilities reduce, reuse and recycle, the manufacturer has been able to minimize waste significantly, promoting a "green" future.
Toyota's efforts in waste reduction have been implemented throughout their facilities. In 2013, the company was able to minimize waste by more than 95-percent, which led to 32 of their facilities being named "Zero Waste Businesses." Changes in windshield packaging have helped lower weight, conserve energy and reduce waste. By taking oil from stamping machines and reusing it in blanking presses, Toyota has also been able to cut back on oil purchases by 80 percent, benefiting their waste reduction initiatives.
