Trying to capture the attention of an audience can be a difficult task, which is why today's TV commercials have to not only sell the product, but also hook the viewer, leaving a lasting impression. In Japan, many advertisers turn to outrageous antics in order to ignite a spark with their commercials, and the same goes for automakers who want to show off their latest models. Toyota, a global leader in the automotive industry, is one of the brands that has been infiltrating the Japanese market with their zany ads for years, and just recently, they debuted an all-new commercial that aims to incite a brand-new dance craze: the waku-doki.
In Toyota's latest Japanese ad, the scene opens with a car full of Japanese businessmen driving through the jungle while rocking their heads to the song playing on the radio. At one point, the car pulls over and everyone jumps out in order to use the bathroom; however, during the process, a gorilla appears out of nowhere and frightens everyone, causing them to fall to the ground. They each then begin insinuating a heart pumping motion with their hand over their chest and the gorilla soon catches on, copying the motion. Within seconds, the entire clan breaks out into a dance routine, accompanied by the gorilla, which draws out other natives, creating a jungle party. Appropriately called "waku-doki" after Toyota's global theme, which means "heart-racing," the dance proves to be a hit in the jungle-themed commercial, and has since gone viral, becoming a hit in real-life, too.
