What's New For the 2021 Toyota 4Runner?

A new trim level joins the 4Runner family in 2021, which sits just above the base model. The latest 4Runner trim, named the Trail Special Edition, introduces some new paint colors for the 4Runner. As with its siblings, the Trail Special Edition can be customized in a variety of ways. Other notable features for the latest trim are off-road wheels and a durable rooftop cargo basket. A large cooler will join for all your adventures with the Special Edition, and it also comes with all-season floor mats. Other notable features for the other 4Runner trims are impressive off-road capability, bold LED lighting, award-winning safety features, and plenty of creature comforts to keep everyone happy and entertained on-road and off.

Available Features in the 2021 4Runner

The SR5 is the first of nine 4Runner trims. The SR5 gets more than you might expect for a base model, including a comprehensive suite of driver-assist safety aids. With most SUVs, you have to upgrade for more safety equipment. Skid plates and bright fog lights are notable trail-ready exterior features. Inside, the SR5 comes with a 120V power outlet. It also gets a standard infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The Trail Special Edition adds black upholstery, a choice of green or black for the exterior, and an integrated roof rack to carry your outdoor gear. The TRD Off-Road is the third trim with special off-road settings and an optional dynamic suspension system. The Premium focuses on luxury with upgraded upholstery and heated seats. The Venture gets a custom roof rack, black exterior accents, and dark gray wheels. The TRD Pro gets Fox dampers, a special skid plate, and all-terrain tires. The Limited brings leather seating, automatic climate control, and a custom suspension. The Nightshade Edition gets the Limited's amenities plus a black exterior trim.

How Much Power Does the Toyota 4Runner Have?

All 2021 4Runner trims have the same engine, a 4.0-liter V6 engine that creates up to 270 HP in max power and 278 LB-FT of torque. The engine is connected to a five-speed automatic transmission across the board. Four-wheel drive is included on all trims but the base model and Limited, which get standard two-wheel drive.

4Runner Safety at the Forefront

Toyota's award-winning safety system, which is the Safety Sense P, is included on all 4Runner trims. This package includes pre-collision mitigation, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and pedestrian detection. Automatic high beams are also included.
