While many automakers cite a few small changes for their vehicles in the latest model year, Toyota proudly rolls out a long list of updates for the 2020 Toyota Corolla. This year, the Corolla gets a completely new look, inside and out. Its exterior has changed in dimension and appearance, which includes a shorter hood to improve driver visibility. The wheelbase is longer in this year's Toyota Corolla, which improves the car's handling and performance, as well as occupants' comfort.
The edges of the Corolla have been chiseled, sculpted, and refined to give it a more dynamic and athletic appearance. New for this year, drivers have a choice between the regular 16-inch wheels and larger 18-inch wheels. You also have the option of wheel finish based on trim level, which ranges from steel to alloy and even twisted spokes. An all-new gray paint color gives you more options for a custom look, and a larger engine gives the Corolla a stronger performance capacity than in the past. The Corolla also offers a choice of either manual or automatic transmission for the 2020 model year, and it is available in a hybrid version for the first time.
There are six trim levels in the 2020 Toyota Corolla family. You'll find a plethora of amenities on the Corolla, starting with the base trim. At the base level, the Corolla comes standard with a seven-inch infotainment display screen. This system comes with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa. When you go up in trim level, you'll get even more amenities including an eight-inch infotainment display screen with hands-free operation and voice recognition. Smartphone compatibility is a highlight of all Corolla trim levels.
From the outside, you'll be able to distinguish among the different Corolla trim levels by their lighting elements. Each version of the Corolla gets LED lights of a slightly different design. The two sportiest trim levels also get lights that are covered with a smoke-colored lens to give them an even more unique appearance. Sixteen-inch wheels still come standard on the lower-level trims, while you can get larger 18-inch wheels on the higher trims. There are more standard safety features in this year's Corolla on all trim levels. The XSE and SE trims get the most distinctive appearance of all with the addition of stabilizing fins and a chin spoiler. Available adaptive lighting adds an even bolder look and greater visibility.
Depending on the trim level you choose, you'll find one of three engines under the hood of the 2020 Toyota Corolla. The base engine is the same one that powered the Corolla in previous years. It is a four-cylinder engine with a 1.8L capacity that churns out about 139 HP. The second engine, which is a new option for 2020, is a more powerful 2.0L, four-cylinder engine that creates up to 169 HP. The hybrid derives its power from two separate engines. The first engine is a gasoline engine that creates up to 121 HP. The second is an electric engine that produces up to 71 HP. Together, they produce about 105 HP and give the hybrid a fuel economy that is about 20 MPG better than what the gasoline-based Corolla offers.
In 2020, the Toyota Corolla has a variety of standard and available safety features. Its standard safety features, which cover all trims, including eight cabin airbags and a backup camera. The 2020 Corolla also comes with an innovative safety system, the Toyota Safety Sense, that is standard on all trims. This package includes a number of driver-assist aids including forward collision alert with pedestrian warning, radar-operated cruise control, lane departure warning, high-beam assist, and road sign detection, which lets you know of upcoming traffic signs.
