What's New For the 2019 Toyota Tacoma?

In 2019, the Toyota Tacoma will be entering the third year of its third generation. One of the best things about this truck has always been how many options there are, allowing drivers to find the perfect vehicle to fit their needs. When factoring in cab size, trim level, and drivetrain options, drivers will have a whopping 32 different configurations to choose from in 2019.

A new package option this year is the SX. This package, which can be added to both the 4x2 and 4x4 versions of the base trim, adds a long list of black detailing to your Tacoma. Drivers will this package will get a black grille and matte-black 16-inch wheels. There are also black accents on the door handles, mirror caps, headlights, and over fenders.

2019 Tacoma Trims & Configurations

There are six trim models for the 2019 Toyota Tacoma. They are the SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and TRD Pro. Each trim is available in either 4x2 or 4x4 versions and different cab options, with the exception of the Pro. The Pro only comes in a 4x4 double cab.

Each trim comes with an Entuneā„¢ Audio system. The base level SR will include a 6.1-in. touch-screen display, a USB media port, six speakers, and more. Upper trims build on this package, adding things such as a navigation system and a larger touchscreen. The higher trims also offer front dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless smart device charging, and a Smart Key System on the driver's door that works with Push Button Start.

A truck needs to be tough, which is why Toyota used fiber-reinforced sheet-molded composite in the truck bed. This is reinforced using outer panels made from steel. The tailgate is very user-friendly and designed to be easy to lower, lock, and even remove. There is also a deck rail system that includes four fixed bed cargo tie-down points and four adjustable tie-down cleats.

Impressive Drivetrain

Both the SR and SR5 are also available with a 159-hp, 2.7-liter I-4 engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The slight drop in power with the I-4 gives drivers slightly better fuel economy, with 20 MPG in the city and 23 MPG on the highway, compared to the V6's 18 MPG city and 22 MPG highway.

Towing is an important factor for most truck owners. The base trim is capable of towing up to 3,500 pounds. Upper trims, such as the Limited and the TRD Off-Road can tow anywhere between 6,400 and 6,700 pounds, depending on options.

Advance Safety Gear
