Deciding which mid-size truck to purchase is seemingly difficult at first glance, but one look at the 2018 Toyota Tacoma may simplify matters. The 2017 model was honored with the title of best-selling truck in its class and Toyota has improved on an already well-designed truck with its new 2018 version. The exterior style of the Tacoma is one of the features that draws mid-size truck buyers to it and Toyota has made little changes to its body style between 2017 and 2018.
The interior features are also relatively unchanged, but there is one major difference between last year's model and the new 2018 model. The 2018 model features Safety Sense P as standard equipment. This is an innovative feature that incorporates modern technology to help you stay safe behind the wheel. Its features are a pedestrian crossing alert, radar cruise control, a pre-collision alert, a sway warning alert, automated high beams and a lane departure alert.
Each mid-size truck buyer intends to use their next truck in different ways, such as a work vehicle, a commuter vehicle or something else. With this in mind, Toyota has created six Tacoma trim types, and each of these are available in various engine and cab configurations. When you purchase your new 2018 Tacoma, you will be able to choose from lower-end trims, such as the SR, SR5 or TRD Off-Road. If you are interested in a higher-end trim, the TRD sport, Limited and Pro TRD are available for you to choose from. While higher-end trims have a more robust list of features as standard equipment, even the base Tacoma trim has a full list of features that can add to your overall driving experience. Standard equipment in all models include a leather-wrapped steering wheel that includes power steering and controls for audio and adaptive cruise control, a superior stereo system with multiple speakers, heated side mirrors with turn signals in them, keyless ignition, illuminated vanity mirrors for both front seats, one-touch power windows, power door locks with a remote keyless function and other features.
You might think that a truck with the new Safety Sense P package as standard equipment would have undeniably great safety ratings, and you would be right. The NHTSA doled out four stars for the overall safety category out of five total possible stars. IIHS gave the 2018 Tacoma the highest grades available in all five safety categories. U.S. News also reviewed this truck on its 10-point scoring system, and it gave it a 9.3. In addition to the Safety Sense P package, you will find a host of other safety features as standard equipment. Anti-lock brakes, front disc brakes with rear drum brakes, brake assistance, daytime-running headlights and headrests are available. There are also several airbags to protect passengers, and this includes a deactivation feature for the front passenger seat.
