Troubleshooting your Toyota's engine problems can be a challenge, but luckily the experts are here to help. An engine can get too hot if it doesn't get enough coolant fluid or if the components designed to pull hot air away from the engine, such as radiator fans, stop working. You may notice alarming symptoms such as a smoking car or a strong burning smell in either case. When your engine overheats, it's time to schedule service with a mechanic and avoid driving your vehicle until you get it inspected.

Cooling System Leaks

The cooling system has dozens of parts. They range from significant parts such as the radiator and heater core that help keep the engine going to connective hoses that help transport coolant fluid across the cooling system. When there is a leak in the cooling system, the coolant fluid can't reach the engine, which causes it to strain and eventually overheat as a result. Since there can be many sources of a leak in the cooling system, you might not be able to find the source on your own. However, our expert technicians will gladly take a look to see if a leak exists. You may notice some indications of a cooling system leak, such as orange, green, or blue fluids pooling beneath your car.

Broken Radiator

The source of your Toyota's overheating engine might be the radiator, which cools off the engine by removing hot air from the vehicle and circulating coolant fluid. The radiator can break, which means that it can't perform its functions to regulate the engine's temperature. The radiator uses fans to help move hot air out of the car, which may also stop working if they develop problems. A broken motor clutch that operates the fans might be to blame, too.

Leaking Hoses

The hoses in a Toyota's cooling system can stop moving coolant fluid for various reasons. The hoses can develop cracks and holes, especially if they are not inspected as scheduled. The coolant fluid can leak out from the holes, which means that it cannot be circulated through the cooling system. Hoses can become corroded or even become disconnected if they are loose, to begin with, or installed incorrectly. Either way, you'll want to have a mechanic inspect your car.

Broken Belts

There are also a few belts that can break and interfere with the engine's function. One of the most common belts to break is the water pump belt. The belts can slip, fray, or become worn out with age.
