Every year, the Houston Zoo turns into a winter wonderland with twinkling lights all around and holiday treats for guests to enjoy.

The zoo is lit up by over two million lights that cover 15 miles, illuminating the pathways and oak trees with glittering decorations that give the zoo a magical presence. This year, a new 33-foot tall Christmas tree is now featured at the zoo, as well. It's decorated to the gills and brings even more holiday spirit to the facility.

Other special attractions include lightshows set to music, Candy the talking zebra and a Holiday Train. You also won't want to pass up grabbing a cup of hot cocoa and some Christmas cookies, which you can enjoy while taking in all the sites, including the Christmas displays and caroling.

Even though some of the zoo's animals may be sleeping, there are still many animals and other creatures to see. For instance, visitors can check out the zoo's family of Masai giraffes, zebras and ostriches, as well as indoor exhibits like the Reptile and Amphibian House, Bug House and Kipp Aquarium.

If you've never experienced Houston Zoo Lights, visit this year to see why it's such a cherished annual tradition.
