As we move into another warm, humid Houston summer, having your car’s air conditioning system working well becomes a top priority for many drivers. After all, who wants to show up to work, a meeting or an event dripping with sweat because they just got done baking in their ride during their commute? Even if your car’s air conditioner seems to be working well, it's still a good idea to get it checked before warm weather hits.
An air conditioner that is low on coolant or has problems with its electrical wiring can eventually destroy the entire AC system altogether. Knowing if there’s a problem with your car’s air conditioner is not always easy though. So here’s five signs that should prompt you to take your vehicle in for AC repair.
Noisy AC Compressor: Turn your AC on full blast and listen for any weird noises. If you happen to hear strange or loud sounds while the system is running, this might mean there’s a problem with the compressor.
Foul Smelling Air: Is there a funky smell coming from your AC vents? Then it’s probably due to bacteria in the evaporator. This can be easily fixed by one of our factory-trained service technicians.
Fluctuating Temperatures: Built-up moisture in your car’s hoses can cause sporadic temperatures. This might mean you need new hoses, which is often an easy fix.
Coolant Leaks: Refrigerant often runs out over time, especially if your car has 150,000 miles or more on it. A coolant flush or refill usually solves this problem.
Electrical Problems: A car’s AC compressor needs voltage from a vehicle’s battery to run, so something as simple as a new battery may be the answer to solving your car’s air conditioning problem.
If one of these problems exist with your car’s air conditioning, it’s probably time to have it looked at by a mechanic. When caught early, many vehicle air conditioning issues are usually inexpensive to fix.
